Where Porn Software Falls Short

by Freedom Fight | January 23, 2023

At Freedom Fight, we have had the joy and experience of walking alongside tens of thousands of people who are seeking freedom from porn

With that said, we feel obliged to let you know that while software and whitelisting are great tools and phenomenal first steps on your healing journey- that is what they are- baby steps. If these tools are employed as a piece of a holistic model that is helping you understand the emotional, spiritual and relational damage that porn use brings, then software can be a tool wielded on your behalf.

However, if you are instead seeking software tools in order to better grit it out or not let others know of your struggle, then software will not be the silver bullet in those pursuits. Instead, you are at risk for setting yourself up for a repeating cycle of shame and porn use to accommodate those feelings.

Here are 2 areas we have identified where porn software falls short:

1. Software without Accountability.

If software is just another way you intend to solve things all on your own, then it is a recipe for failure. It could prolong your journey to healing. Some software tools are created to facilitate flagging and reporting explicit sites to chosen accountability partners who can walk alongside you in your journey.

Whether or not the tool requires accountability, you must understand that a trusted and chosen community can help you in ways a software tool cannot.

Addictions thrive in isolation but lose their power in the light of community. Every sex addiction therapist will tell you the same thing: they have never seen an addict find real freedom on their own. Beating this addiction will require you to step outside of yourself and bring others in.

At Freedom Fight, our approach includes a trusted community walking alongside you.

2. Software as a Silver Bullet.

If software tools alone could provide freedom from porn use, then we would not have the overwhelming levels of porn addiction that we experience in the United States.

So often porn users see their addiction as something they should be able to overcome with sheer willpower or if only they were a better person. This neglects all the research and scientific discovery behind addiction and brain science. Over time with porn use, your brain is hard-wired to crave and seek porn. Overcoming this formed default for the brain will require a holistic approach to healing.

Here’s a message left by a Freedom Fight user that says it better than we could:

‘Just trying harder’ is a fool’s errand’

These [Freedom Fight] videos have begun to equip me with the necessary tools for freedom in my battle for purity. After learning the brain science behind sexual addiction, I understood that I simply couldn’t just try harder and expect to walk in purity! This has been pivotal as I learn to “live in the light.” Overall, the FF videos have played and will continue to play a vital role in understanding my addiction and overcoming it.
