Four Deaths of Porn Addiction

by Freedom Fight | August 10, 2022

I often hear a dull thud and grimace with regret. I am aware of what has occurred with nothing more than the familiar sound.

For reasons unknown to me, the windows of my house appear to birds of all shapes and sizes as a great place to fly at full cruising speed. My bird funeral routine has evolved into quite an efficient series of steps that include a shovel, a prayer, and a bit of hustling to be sure that the neighborhood kids and cats don’t come to gawk.

Scooping them up, I always wonder the same thing:

How could an animal capable of flight and feats of wonder not navigate around its own death?

James 1:14-15 answers the quandary, “but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

Porn use, for so many, is a window that also looks inviting but ends in death.

At Freedom Fight, we have identified four deaths that are witnessed over and over from porn users that we journey with

  • Death of Marriage:

Porn is mentioned as a significant reason in 56% of all divorces.

  • Death of Healthy Sexuality:

People who watch porn are less satisfied with their sex lives than those who don’t.

  • Death of a Heart to Serve:

Porn usage significantly decreases the likelihood that a person will serve or have a position of leadership in their church.

  • Death of a Heart for God:

Those who view pornography more often reported lower levels of closeness to God and higher levels of religious doubts.

Now back to the birds.

Out and about, I often see birds flying in flocks, which is how the bird species is known for traveling. But birds don’t fly into my window as a flock- they always fly into my window alone.

Proverbs 18:1 is clear, “Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgement.” God’s word reminds us isolating ourselves in general is not wise, and especially when battling a porn addiction.

Alone, we often navigate toward our demise.
We need others to help us find new ways to freedom.

There is hope for freedom from pornography.
You do not have to fly alone. You should not fly alone.
